    My own personal experience has been that image ads dont perform very well. I believe they may do OK on certain niches (who knows what).

    Over the last couple of years I have gradually gotten to where I rarely use them if at all

    text ads perform way better than image ads

    why? because text ads look like part of your body content and image ads look like ads

    I always preferred text ads over the image ads as I have made channels and saw that they performed better than the image ads.
