Testing your websites?

    Hi all,

(finally!) I am in a position now, where I can let a few friends loose on my website to test it out and get a bit of feedback etc...

One thing I am particularly concerned with, is the amount of traffic my site and host can handle (i.e. SQL queries, deadlocking, etc).

How do you guys normally go about testing your sites?

How much testing is "enough" testing?

    Cheers!

    Sham

P.S. The site in question for anyone interested is the first one in my sig...

Maybe I don't understand your question right... but if a few friends overload the server how can you every expect to have any real traffic on it?

Simulate high levels of traffic by generating it. Set up some CURL scripts (or something similar) to hammer your site. Then hit a library (or whatever) and run those scripts from several different computers. It's not a real load test, but it should give you an idea about whether or not you have real problems.

Or you could try to arrange a slashdot for yourself...

Have someone run a DOS attack against it. Just kidding. Time will tell.

I would normally just set it going and see.

If you have paid for hosting then you should be OK, if you get too much traffic for your host to handle then complain to them and they will sort it.

Too much traffic early on is a good problem to have though :)
