Testing landing pages?

Okay, I have decided to give this CB thing ago!
I now have a site with a simple one page landing page with my hop links in etc...
I have read you should maybe test different landing pages to see which one does the best. How do people do this?
Do they leave just one up for while and see how it goes - then change it?
Or do they do different pages within the domain to see which one converts the most?

I have example.com as my main landing page.
Should I now do page.example.com or example.com/page or both?

    Thanks in advance.

Landing pages depend on your products.

    Do example.com/page.

The way I test lp's is usually with ppc. Many might do this because, yeah you may lose money at the beginning but you get traffic right away and can test different lp's quicker and see results.

I like to see how many clicks it takes before purchase then I know if it's a winner lp or a loser and I change it up until I get it just right. I am more of a person of quality not quantity so I aim for sales for every 40 clicks or less. If it doesn't then I keep tweaking the same lp. IMO

I don't make three lp's at once and test them, like I said I keep tweeking the original until it produces the roi that I want. Once you get a good lp design down then you can basically copy same format for many other products.

What works best for me is the review pages with 3 different similar products and then of course you steer them to your 5 star product the first one. Doesn't really matter though, as long as they buy any three you still make sale. Also another little trick I learned is, you put the best and most expensive product first , second one will cost a little less and third costs even less than the first two. That way there's a better chance they won't leave your site without purchasing at least one of them.

Make sure you show "benefits" of why they should get product and also make sure you know a lot about the product, almost like your an expert about it. Don't just do so quick little overview of the product. Do a little research first. The more facts and tips you give to potential buyer the more they believe in your expertise.

    cheers!
