Test - What do you think will happen?

I have a site that I just added to the network yesterday. It has a weight of 7290 and is about a year and a half old. I have kind of neglected this site while focusing most of my efforts on another (i'll add that story to the "Success" thread later :) ).

The ad I created targets "purple widgets" for which my site doesn't show up in the top 1000 in Google (today anyway... yesterday it was around 700. It's been bouncing in and out.). I am currently at 96 allinanchor w/ 131 GG IBL's and 665 Y! IBL's and a PR 5.

My on page must be pretty good because I'm in the top 5 on Yahoo!/MSN and #1 in the MSN beta. I should add that I sell a lot of "purple widgets" thanks to Froogle, Yahoo and MSN.

What kind of a bump do you think I'll see (or do you need more info)?

My guess: a substantial bump in about a month - but it may not last for more than a couple months. Remember - it's my guess. Others will disagree. :)

I'm curious as to why this might not last more than a couple months.

So am I. The coop ads have pushed my SEO Services page to #2 for a search on "seo services". I know it is the coop network because like the shoemaker's children I've done almost no optimization or link building to this page other than the coop network.

I'm not sure how long the page has been at #2, but I've been in the program -- with a very minor weight -- since almost the beginning. So if the impact diminishes after a couple of months why am I still #2?

Today, using Mcdars "Datacenter Quick Check", show it all over the board.

from 515 to 513 to 624 to 489 to 541 to 533 to gone depending on the datacenter! Should be interesting to see where it ends up in 24 hours.

I am lossing BL's but kept my PR 5 in this latest update, btw

It is my opinion that there is a correlation between weight and dropout. i.e. too much weight can be harmful. I guess you will hit a threshold of backlinks which G's algo sees as un-natural linking. It would be interesting to see if all the people with lower weights are still doing ok and if the guys with higher weights (eBay) have gone. Perhaps 170k backlinks to a single page on digitalpoint is un-natural. Only my opinion for what it's worth.

There is an easy fix for that problem, if it really exists. Display more ads. Thus keeping the occurrence of any one ad or anchor text down.

I have only been in the network for about 6 weeks and have been doing what you have suggested, I personally have not noticed any drop off, only increases in the SERPs, I also think that a variance in Link Text helps. I am dreading the 2 month dropoff but will let you know if (hopefully not when) I lose SERPs.

Perhaps a few persistent links might be in order - recips or the like.

Do you have persistent IBL's ?

    Cheers,

    Hey Bob / Compar:

I see your site at #1 for seo services on the big G.

    Congrats!

I've been on the coop for about a month now and no noticable changes in either serps nor traffic for me. As I've added a blog, page counts are growing, which helps, but still only have a weight of 14,000, so maybe it will take longer to see some results.

I'm growing impatient, but your results are encouraging some patience here!

    Hank

Although I don't have the ad_network up yet, I've run into what I think is a similar situation. Back in August, I joined PowerLinks. The idea is a site hosts a page that displays the enitre directory, in turn, that site's link is displayed on everyone else's directory pages.

PowerLinks was growing slowly, so I listed in a second category. At that point SERPs were improving nicely. Then I listed in a third cat (that was going to be my last) about 2 months ago, and at the same time, PowerLinks began enrolling lots of sites. In the last 2 months my Y! link count went from about 280 to 1100 (actual is probably around 1600).

About Jan 9, my GG SERPs fell for my most important keyphrase from #36 in a pool of 2.5 mil to #59. My secondary phrases fell from #6 and 9 to #26 and #29 respectively.

Sure feels like an unatural linking penalty. Just a guess though.
