Many people, new and experienced SEO's, ask the question: How fast can I build links to a new site? Here's the results of a test experiment, varying the link velocity between two different sets of test sites. Test Suite A Link Velocity: 2 high PR/PA/DA backlinks per week, from relevant niche sites 3 unique sites, all targeting the same keyword. 12k/month medium competition. Non-spun content. Individually written. All reverse-silo structured. All using the same theme. New sites: < 3 weeks Social signals: Created FB, Twitter for each. ~1000 fans each. 10 signals per week No additional backlinking other than high PR/PA/DA relevant backlinks Results: Summary: Slow to index (5 days). Hit first page in 25 days. Average ranking result: Test Suite B Link Velocity: 6 high PR/PA/DA backlinks per week, from relevant niche sites 3 unique sites, all targeting the same keyword. 12k/month medium competition. Same keyword as Test Suite A Non-spun content. Individually written. All reverse-silo structured. All using the same theme. New sites: < 3 weeks Social signals: Created FB, Twitter for each. ~1000 fans each. 10 signals per week No additional backlinking other than high PR/PA/DA relevant backlinks Results: Summary: Indexed immediately. Never hit first page. Average ranking result: Conclusion When building backlinks to a new site, go slow. 2 high powered backlinks per week seems to be the magic number. Suite A got to page 1 in 3.5 weeks with just 6 backlinks. Suite B never made it to page 1 and used up 18 backlinks. Save yourself money and get a better result. Hope this helps, Diggity
