I don't think google spider will follow "nofollow" links. because google has introduced this "no-follow" system to reduce spam in the internet.

I personally feel that - looking at no-follow will definitely spoil your work.

Almost many blogs using no-follow only but if your comment is good; nobody can stop them to visit your site. Its all about your quality of the content and quality of the comment. Never bother about no-follow - this is my personal view and i working by this - and getting good number of visitors too..

I can definitely agree with this statement. Don't build links for search engines build them for people

No one ever said that no-follow links would not be indexed. That's not what the attribute is used for.

What Google says is that no follow links will not page pagerank link juice.

They will still be indexed though.

Actually you are completely wrong. That is not what Google says. This is what google says:

How does Google handle nofollowed links?

We don’t follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web. However, the target pages may still appear in our index if other sites link to them without using nofollow, or if the URLs are submitted to Google in a Sitemap. Also, it’s important to note that other search engines may handle nofollow in slightly different ways.

and here is the URL ON GOOGLE where you can find it:

    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=96569

You see, my information is factual. Not urban legends and myths. A lot of people are very mislead on what actually IS. To many times storys and articles are twisted and chopped up so that people can hear what they want to hear

Also I am not trying to argue with people over this subject. Nor am I trying to pick fights. I wrote this article in order to help some people out. If this is not helping you then ignore the article. You don't have to throw insults and attacks my way. Obviously this article has helped some open minded people out. For all of those who are close minded so be it. I have nothing against you, so please stop throwing hateful comments my way.

Just because your site got indexed isn't proof of anything.

I had a site with zero backlinks, just sitting dormant, a one page site. After a couple of weeks Google to my surprise showed up (how?) and in dexed it!

Google will still spider a nofollow link, it just wont pass PR juice.

Usually this can happen in a number of ways. I did however take precautions against this.

Read comment #25. If this is true why does Google say different? Are you stating that Google is lying, because if so than we are saying the same thing. I know that sites will be indexed if they have a no-follow on them, that is why I did this test. But again Google specifically states that they do not index no-follow links

I hadn't seen that quote before. it certainly isn't how google behaves now.

Perhaps that page is just out of date. There are dozens of pages on Google that our out of date, so I wouldn't be surprised.

But, it ust doesn't matter. It's a non-issue. no follow links definitely don't pass pagerank or anchor text, so it doesn't matter at all. If you want to get your site indexed, there are quicker ways to do it.

google indexes links that are nofollow. the nofollow tag ensures that you are not "voting" for the link and therefore you are not endorsing the link.

Hey want to see something really cool proving that the page is not out of date. Look at the very bottom of the page it says UPDATED 9/21/2009 that was just over a month ago. Kind of makes you scratch your head doesn't it.

That is very odd. It's been known for some time that Google has been crawling no follow links.

    But again, it just doesn't matter. It's a non-issue.

Being "indexed" and being used to increase ranking are two different things.

Nofollow links are crawled, always have been, it's just what Google has chosen to do with them in the past has changed some. There is still no clear evidence that they will increase ranking in Google. But it doesn't seem to hurt and I've had good success ranking sites in other search engines from links that are nofollowed.

And what happens when Google Changes their mind? Google may be the 10,000lb Gorilla of search, but the do not control all the traffic. So build your links accordingly. I'd rather be #3 in Yahoo or Bing than #30 in Google. Too many people are too narrow in their focus. Traffic comes from a lot of places including the links themselves. SEO is NOT the only way to benefit from linking.

One can never speak for Google. They like to be secretive about nearly everything. You test you try and you figure out what works for you.
