Since I'm on a template ASP system for Realtors is there any benifit to having my site on a seperate IP address?
Both of my partners used to work for one of "those" real estate template mass manufacturers and let me tell you ... they are a b***h to get ranked.
I'm not a fan of the template web sites. Some of the templates with dynamic content prevent search engines from crawling them effectively or at all. You also need to edit the template code so that the dynamic pages contain unique title tags. Another problem is many of them contain stock content, or editable stock content (insert your company name here). There's no need to tempt a duplicate content penalty. There is one popular realtor package that gets away with this by placing the dupe content on their own server, and frames it with the realtor's web page. I can't stand them. I see some funky things when I reverse engineer their pages. I hope the hammer falls on them soon. We do all custom real estate projects. It takes a lot of time and coordination with the client to develop unique content, but the end result is better SERP's over a wide range of key phrases - and more conversions - for the realtor.
I'm a big fan of getting separate IP addresses for important sites. Most times it's a requirement because of SSL. At the very least, other sites cross linked to yours would be on separate IP's.
