I'm soon going to open up a site that will have tons of quality free templates. Will be going through hundreds and hundreds of template sites to weed out the good one's. I will also be buying one of a kind templates and offering free on my site and hosting contests with prize money of $100/$500/$1000 USD. I was wondering would this type of site be successful? I have a great domain name that I wll be using, which is simple and very easy to remember.
It has potential to be successful but this depends on how good your marketing skills are and your budget for marketing it.
Well I plan to buy alot of one of a kind templates, and put my link at the bottom as sponser, these would increase my backlinks and my search engine position when people use the template on their site. I don't think that getting traffic would be that hard, pretty sure that it would be simple to round in around 100 unique visitors per day, off-course my goal is over 1k unique visitors per day. With the budget I think I'm not that limited. Contest prizes will be great, and I'm not low on money. I want to start off this site and build good visitors and then develop it into a site that can earn income. As I'm 15, and I know that if I would keep a site like this for 3 years, and run the contests, keep it updated and so on, that in 3 years it would be a pretty great site, and I'm sure it would be making $100 at least. For some money to invest with, I was thinking of when buying the template, I would sell 2 sponser spots on the template, so it could cover up some of the cost for the template. There isn't much to be amazed off if there aren't any results yet. Yes, I don't plan on just putting on some templates and leaving it alone. But work on it daily and plan to hit top 10 searches on google for free templates. Thanks.

that's a nice idea! lot of us search for templates, and specially those free ones. if you have a template with just the one link at the bottom, then am sure most people will use it. Usually free templates have about 4-5 links, so people go for the paid options, less links at the footer, and one of a kind templates will sure tempt many to use those!
Thanks alot all for the comments. My problem right now is trying to figure out how I'm going to get more text up on the site. Since there would be alot of images of templates, words aren't needed. But I need to have content for seo.
