Template links against google's guidelines

I want to make some templates with my link in the footer.

Could I be penalized for this? Could google take these as paid links an penalize my site? I need advice. :)

Google may detect and classify them as paid links and then yes you will get penalized for doing it; Footer links hold a low value in Google's eyes so it's not really worth it.

This was a great trick about 2-3 years ago, but that's an eternity in the SEO world and I think now you would be best off avoiding this. It's sure to have been massively devalued by Google, though I'm not sure you will actually get penalised.

I disagree with "footer links having less value", cause personally I haven't come across any information that would prove it so, still if your template gets popular there is a chance of Google noticing, but I'm sure if they send a "real person reviewer" instead of the bot, they'll see what's happening.

Things like these, You should contact Google directly and get the green flag ;)

I have created some templates in the past and used footer links.

This was a very good tactic a couple years ago, but it is still of some value.

Google will not penalize you for footer links, but they do not hold the value that they use to.

That is not to say that they are bad, just that bots are finding better ways to rank sites.

Google will penalize you only if you put some keywords in the link.
Anchor text "Dosh Dosh" won't be penalized but "cheap web hosting" is a big no no ;)
