I want to make a website template in photoshop cs3 What dimensions should the actual content part of the site be (sidebar to sidebar) and what dimensions should I make the document for the background outside of the sidebars? (if that makes any sense) Anyone know?
Are you planning on making your site full width of the screen, or fixed width? These are things that you have to take into consideration when creating a website. I tend to code my sites at 900 width because 800x600 is hardly used anymore, and coding smaller than that really leaves lots of white space once you hit higher resolution screens.
I start with a photoshop canvas size of 1000 x 800 pixels. My finished template usually ends up being about 950 pixels wide, and vertical height, as tall as it needs to be. The average minimum screen resolution is 1024 x 768. I can't remember the last time that I came across a machine that had 800x600 resolution.
Think of design templates, as a coordinate packaged deal. when you decorate a room you use color & patterns etc. a design template act in much the same way. It is created so that even though different slides type can have different layout & graphic.
