Template/Design for art gallery

I am contemplating designing a site (for a good friend) featuring paintings/sculptures (like an art galleries). Within the site, it will showcase the various arts in various categories as well as the artists' profiles. Will most probably use 2CO as payment gateway.

Does anyone know of an art gallery template that I can use?

 

just in case you have Linux as OS ..
in konqueror
>> tools >> create image gallery

is a tool that allows you to make in a single click and just a few config points to create
- thumbnails of all pics in defined size
- number or colons ( nr of pics in a row )
- title for page
- color of text
- backgroiund color

then konqueror creates with a single click a clean validated XHTML page of any number of pics you have in a particular folder in just a few seconds

then i add the missing metatags manually with my preferred HTML editor ( quanta plus ) - change the default alt text and all is perfectly SEO for galleries / Google

in addition you may want to add / edit some text into the gallery
an example made with konqueror is a gallery i made for a local artist

above works fine for me AND Google - i have made several galleries using this tool / template from konqueror since years
may be you are looking for something more complex ...

 

Gosh!! Thanks hans for your detailed instructions but unfortunately, I'm using Windows XP... I would also love to allow artists to upload details, images, price of their arts as well...

You're probably looking for something like phpAutoGallery. Take a look at sourceforge*net.

You can always design you're own or hire a designer, I do designing for sites when I have enough post to post freely anywhere, I'll open up a Custom Template Shop.

 

first off, don't waste time designing the site. art.com has a feature that lets indivdual artist post their own stuff. they do the work so you don't have to.
