    Personally Photoshop in combination with Illustrator. This will give you the greatest flexablity.
    Most of my work is done in PS.
    I do have a friend that does some really great work using Corel. I do like it's multiple page capabilities for print work. Although I find it a bit cumbersome.

    Yeah, graphics is very broad... there's vector, web design, etc. Illustrator is great for vector graphics. Photoshop is great for all around graphics pretty much.

    Inkscape is a Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format

    Portable Inkscape 0.48.1 --> portableapp.googlecode.com/files/InkscapePortable-Setup.exe

    Nice plug there, but yeah Inkscape is pretty good. It's basically an easy to use version of Illustrator, and is also weaker, but unless you're trying to do something really complicated Inkscape is great.

    I use coreldraw for almost of my design work... it's far more flexible and easier to use....
    I recently use Illustrator too, but it's too complicated, to create an effect in Illustrator you need to specify the exact number which is too hard to measure for beginner designer..
    I think that's why corel draw is far more popular than illustrator :) (according to Web Designers Depot's survey for 20 Popular Design Tools)
