hehehe, your name is Professional Designer but you dont' know the graphics software :D

Anyways, Adobe Photoshop is the software you need to use to make graphics for web/print. However if you go for illustrations, you should use Adobe Illustrator.

    Good luck

Many more are there, just depends on which part of the designing you are dedicated for.
I mean to start of vector / raster, print or web even both.
    >Adobe illustrator, photoshop even sometimes Flash
    >Corel
    >Gimp (its free)

    Definately Photoshop.
However, there's free alternatives like Gimp (GIMPshop for photoshop interface) and a newer one; Paint.net

you beat me to it, I was going to say the same thing about his Nic. That just goes to show that the words "Professional, Guru, & Master" are no longer of any relevance in our industry. Everyone uses those three words now more than they change their socks.

It could be worse though, it could be your Surgical Doctor asking you what a scalpel & Gauss is just before putting you under for the operation. LOL LOL

In addition, Photoshop is still a Paint/ Raster / photo manipulation software last time I checked. Fine for web work, but if you truly want more print related design work then go with Adobe Illustrator & Adobe indesign.

Photoshop for Web / simple usage that doesn't require expanding the image. For creating logos like company logos etc..., Illustrator for vector graphics, hands down.

I would prefer Photoshop...always! It is the best for graphic designing, photo touching, creating websites etc. You name any requirement and Photoshop ia capable of doing it. The 2nd best is Fireworks. Now, both these softwares are owned by Adobe only. So, you could go for the fireworks too.
