"Tell a friend" Does it worth?

    Hi,

I'm making a new section on my website; it will include crossword puzzles...

now the question: does it worth to add a "tell a friend" option when the crossword is completed? or should that option be available all time on the page (just in case someone needs help for solving the puzzle, maybe ask for a friend's help?) ?

do these things still work? does anyone send "nice links" to their friends via websites forms?

if anyone earns traffic by this way, please present some tips :)

For the sake of a very small form on a webpage, where it is appropriate, it is a nice viral touch.

My experience is that a small percentage of your visitors will reccomend your site if you give them the option. If you don't make it easy for them by not having it there then you are potentially losing a new site visitor.

Use whatever means you have to market your site - all these little Ideas eventually add up.

I think having the "tell a friend" option available all time on the page is better than having it when the crossword is completed. Having it all the time on the page will ensure more referrals. A disadvantage of having it after the completion of the puzzle will be many visitors will just attempt and leave it without solving the complete puzzle which means they won't be able to see the "tell a friend" option to possibly bring in more referrals.

ok so i'll make it stay there all time...

but what kind of form? single friend email address or more? maybe if someone sees a large number of fields gets scaried and doesn't fill in them... what do you use?

similar to putting your website in a funny email....sending it to all your friends, adntelling them to send it to all their buddies!

it didnt work for me so i made it so people can link to content with html code and bbcode.. i have gotten alot of people linking back via myspace type sites and forums/blogs
im thinking of doing it with another site also
example can be seen here: http://www.drift.us/videos/d1gp_demo.php

but give the tell-a-friend a try.. any viral word of mouth traffic is good

It does still work and doesn't cause any harm by being added,so there you are.
Only a small percentage do recommend, but still small drops of water make a mighty ocean and so every visitor counts.

FYI there are scripts out there that you can drop right into your site to add the Tell A Friend feature, such as this one: Tell A Friend Script

If you place scriptsfrom other web sites on your web site, there are lot of chaces to loose your PR. I saw somewhere, the more your website have outbound links, the more chances to loose your PR.
Also I don't like my visitors submitting their email Id to an unknown web site and eventually they will spam it.
Placing your own tell-a-friend just under the navigation menu will help a lot.

I added one to my site. If it can get me a dozen more customers then that is $500 more for me to play with.

For the amount of work it took to write, it was more than worth it.
