    Hi

I have noticed a competitor has added their telephone number to their adwords advert. Call now on....

I didn't think this was allowed???

I might do it if it is ok. I can't be allowed though, as google wouldn't get the click in some cases.

It is allowed. The problem is it doesn't make your ad more attractive in the sense of getting people to click on it. All those numbers do attract the eye to it however. But your quality is dependent on how many people click your ad. If they don't, your QS goes down and you have to pay more just to maintain your position.

A phone number doesn't give any useful information about your product so fewer people will click. Why would they call? Just because your little ad said so with little other info? The idea is to get them to click so they get more information on your page so you can convince them to buy or call you.

It may be allowed but not a tactic that works or that I recommend.
