Teenager who built his own windmill to power his home

I thought this was pretty impressive and figured everyone would enjoy it too. Turns out this teenager from Malawi (where?) built his own windmill to power the lights in his home. Doesn't sound like much until you see the pictures of the windmill and his home. I have a feeling this kid will be running dual xenon servers out of there not too long from now...LOL

Great post. William Kamkwamba is an inspiration indeed.
The world needs more people tinkering with wind and solar power, even those of us who have electricity to burn.

They're actually quite easy to build. There are a few fundamental formulas and physical laws that determine the amount of power you can get so if you want enough power to run computers and servers you have to go big. At least a 20' blade span.

Power available (watts) = 1/2 * air density * wind velocity3 (wind velocity to the third power). Where air density = 1.23 kg per cubic meter at sea level and swept area is in square meters.

I just donated too. Let's send this guy a big DP $$$ encouragement. Even if it's just a few dollars, with all the generous DP members here I'm sure it will add up to something significant.
