IMHO he's thinking from his heart not his head and we all know what happens when you let other body parts do your thinking
The hardest type of site to make successful is a search engine. The second hardest is a general news website. This guy has created a news site that is a success and some companies will pay a lot for that. Why would a big company spend £100 million marketing a new site when they can buy a ready made success?
How can you turn down 8.5 MILLION ???? I would have sold it straight away *all that money* maybe he thinks he's gonna get a bigger offer in the future...
I would probably sell it only because I don't think its a great site. If it was a great site, I would keep it, but I don;t think its all that good after having been on it for a while. It has the feel of a blog with the stories not being very detailes or anything. Also, remember, this paper, The Sun, is absolute trash so I wouldn't exactly believe everyhthing they write. Who knows? maybe he wasn't offered all that much in the first place.
wtf?? 2500 a month but someone willing to buy for 15million US>? that doesnt make any sense what a gay kid...i never even heard of the site
also why is the PR 0 >?? and it has such a useless domain name and the forum has less ppl than i have and my forums are only a few months old this article is so fake
I'm on the site but I don't really see all the fuss? I don't see any amazing content or anything, or am I missing something? If he gets around £2,500 a month from however many thousand visitors, surely he needs to change his advertising scheme? At the moment he's making £80 a day from it, which is fair but surely if someones offered you 7million for the site then it must be earning you more than £80 a day? I would sell straight away because I don't see the fascination with the site. Then I would hire all the old people working for him and start from scratch EDIT: Also, why does the title of the article say that he turned down £8.5 million to sell his website, and then go on to say that he could walk away with £4 million? The Sun is notorious for writing b*llocks, plus the link to the site from the article is incorrect.
Actually, I can't believe a site with only 6,000 results for its domain name can be worth much to be honest. Where is the traffic coming from? http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=sharpenews
To put it simply he is a moron. The site has NO alexa rank, Pagerank 2 , less than 300 backlinks. LOL!
I would have never thought its worth so much just by looking at the website. Even the forums seem dead.
I am sure there might be a logical reason why he said no. Publicity PLUS Viral Interest would put a value more than 8 million now. Although the site looks fairly basic, he can use this publicity to his advantage. I think he has had good advice from someone who has said not to rush into things..! If I was him though I would have took the money.
8.5 mil... and in euros?! dam dude, 2.5k a month won't get you that much in a lifetime... screw the sentiment and attachment that you've been developing for 5 years... take the money and hire some ho's geek! lol... but I'm a geek too I guess, so as you all should know, I'm just kidding around but yes, I would take the money
this is worst than Friendster not selling when they had the chance. I can even make out what makes his site so valuable. sheez.
