Teen Fitness Site?

    A Little Background:

So I was thinking of website ideas the other day and this one just came to me, a teen fitness site! I thought it was a good idea because I'm a teenager so I would establish ethos with the audience and I constantly hear girls in school complaining about their weight. Everyone complains about how they're too busy to exercise with school and other activities.

I was thinking of taking a unique view on fitness. I could give teenagers tips on how to incorporate fitness into their every day lives. For example I was thinking of articles where I could give tips on how to be healthy while at the movies, mall, a party, etc. I'm a goofy person naturally so I was also thinking that I could add a humorous attitude.

A Few Questions For You Website Masters :

    1. Do you think this is a good idea?
    2. Do you like the unique point I'm taking is good?
    3. Any suggestions/comments?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

The best test of whether a business idea is a good idea is to check if anyone else is doing it. I just did a quick google on ‘best teen fitness sites’ & precious little came up. If this was a good market, you can be sure, there would be savvy marketers catering to it.

And I have to say, teens as a whole tend not to be that concerned with health & fitness unless they’re into a specific sport. Interesting that teenbodybuilding.com came up on my search - this would appear to be a good niche (and my admiration goes out to those who are focused enough to stick at b-building; the only workout my biceps got when I was a teenager involved raising a pint of lager to my lips :p).

So in my opinion (for what it’s worth), a general teen fitness site probably isn’t a good idea, although there may be a good teen niche in the health/fitness market that you could get into (a search for ‘weight loss for teens‘ brought up a good selection of ads - always a good sign that there‘s money to be made).

Hope this helps & the best of luck.

This is a site you would do for the "love" and definitely not for the "money". Teenagers don't have credit cards and although some "teen" markets can be lucrative this wouldn't be one of them.

I think it's a great idea if you can monetize it properly. As dcristo said, you may have to do it for the "love", not for the money. However, I strongly believe that even if teens don't have CCs today, they've got phones. So, you could monetize the website with zip submits, and surveys. Just my 2 cents

I think you need to think outside the box a bit more. While teen fitness is a nice idea; how can you expand that idea into make you a living? Look at other websites that talk about fitness. Look at fitness products that are made for teens. Being a parent... I wouldn't want my son ( who is young) looking at a teen fitness website for the fear of him being spammed with items he doesn't need. Instead I'd prefer a website made for parents of teens so that they can keep their child healthy and fit and also active. Consider that.. Best of luck!

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. If you get around to it and you need a writer let me know. I can easily write on fitness related subjects, as it is something I've been interested in for quite a few years. (right now I train for strength 3 times a week and follow a Paleo-based diet).
