Am I wrong in thinking that the search facility on Technorati is too basic? What I mean is, from what I can tell, the authority of a blog listed there seems to be based soley on how many other blogs link to it. The problem? A blog on say, electronic gadgets, could become an authority on that topic through hundreds or thousands of other blogs linking to them. That's fair enough - after all, the blog must be good to get all those links. But what if they then decide to add completely unrelated categories (maybe medicine, drugs etc).. Type in 'medicine' into Technorati and there's a good chance you'll get this electronic gadget blog up there as an 'authority' in medicine. Or am I missing something?
Personally I don’t use Technorati for search. If you are a blogger you will have to visit Technorati to see what’s hot on the blogosphere but other than that it’s useless. Many links get you on the top 100 and a good ranking but does nothing for searches. The search results are sorted by time not by number of links. If you search for “Bush†Technorati will display the latest post containing that Tag.
Technorati was and is a good idea, but far from being implemented. The ceo himself admits that they are not even close to where they want to be. I think they outgrew their own expectations TBH. Highly overrated site as well. (Just because of their pioneer status)
Interesting he said that.. But surely it wouldn't be hard to implement some simple improvements such as keyword-based authority (as opposed to their current links-from-anywhere authority)
