Technorati and rss feeds

To add (claim) a blog, regarding my web site, on Tecnorati, they ask for a feed URL.
The Feed info states "Go to your site's main page as a user would see it (not as the administrator) and check the following: (if using Internet Explorer) look for the orange RSS icon in your toolbar, below the URL bar. Click on it to see the list off feeds available from your page"

When I go to my "site's main page" I see the icon, it's not orange, but gray. When I hover it states "No feeds detected on this page".

    I'm further instructed to:
"If you are managing your own site setup, you can enable auto-discovery of your feed(s) for your site by adding a line like this to the section of your HTML code:

    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml"
title="{enter the title of your feed or page here}"
href="{enter the URL for your feed here}" />
    Code (markup):
I have done so, I entered the url as "/latest1_blog.htm" for example, but still the gray rss icon.
    Any thoughts/assistance will be appreciated.

    Thanks
