I've heard from this guy that he was able to move from page 4 of google results to page 1 just in one day just by getting a few quality backlinks from .edu and .gov sites. Has this worked for you? What are your experiences on this?
I don't know if I believe in the whole .EDU and .GOV hype.. I mean, I'm sure it helps to have a link from these sites but how often do your really see a .edu or .gov site listed as the first result for a popular keywork.. Most of the time .com's are first... Personally, I would rather have a link from any quality website ranking in the top 3 for the keyword that I am targeting...
No one can control and manipulate Google search result, maybe with some glitch but certainly, soon will fixed up by Google.
I don't think there is anything like getting top rankings on Google in a single day. It takes many month for us to bring a website on Top specially on Google. Quality backlinks that we get today will not have any impact on our tomorrow rankings. But those quality backlinks will have positive impact on our website rankings in the long run
From whom? I personally don't believe in .gov and .edu hype - it's all about content and relevant links. Maybe the links which he build from .edu and .gov were highly relevant to his site and hence, a boost in ranking.
It takes more than one day for Google to discover most new links. And many experts believe that Google intentionally waits several months before giving much weight to a new link.
Would you please stop misguiding people here? The whole forum consists of 90% crap already. Blind leading the blind. Assumptions over facts. It can take google as quick as just a few seconds to discover and count a link. It all depends on trust and indexing of the page your link is on. Like SEOIbiza said, one single link can shoot you up overnight.
if you can get relevant quality back links you can boot your site with in 1-2 weeks. I'm not sure about over night, And it is not easy to build quality links with in 2-3 weeks.
lol! (my bolding) and you're not wrong on either matter. do none of you know it alls read about this stuff? have you not seen the SEO Scientist's post and graph about this?
Yes I used to rank the 2nd for some keyword. The site in the first ranking even had sitelinks that appear when you search for that keyword. After I was blessed by a quality edu backlink for my a piece of content that was useful enough, my site started to appear in the first position and the other site lost the sitelinks for that keyword.
Both statements a I made are correct: 1. It takes more than a day for Google to discover most new links. You can see this by checking the Google cached dates for various pages on a site. In most cases these dates are spread out over a period of at least a week. You can see the same thing in Google Webmaster Tools by checking the "last found" dates of a site's backlinks. For most sites these dates are spread out over at least a week. It's true that googlebot crawls the pages on some sites everyday. But the pages on MOST sites do not get crawled everyday. Therefore, as I said, it usually takes more than one day for Google to find a new link. 2. Many experts believe that Google intentionally waits several months before giving much weight to a link. This is true. Many experts do believe this. Anyone who has done much reading about SEO would know this.
i wasnt really talking about you. yes it can often take longer it depends how good you are at getting Google to come and find your stuff yes there is talk of link aging and delay filters but there is also a proven and well documented cause and immediate effect from strong links.
