    Hi,
i had started a web directory 4 months ago and now its pretty successful. Its pr 4 and the visitors are increasing everyday. I wanted to start a new website. Is technology related website(tech news website, new gadgets and electronics) a good niche?

Plus, i already have a domain and wanted to start a web hosting review/ discussion website/ forum. Is is worth the time i will spend on the website?

    Thanks,
    Zilox

Technology sites are a bit iffy. There are so many high profile ones currently that breaking in would be a bit difficult to get a true large amount of stable readers. If you are going to go that route you need to have some kind of a draw on the site to keep the readers coming back for more. You either need to be able to get constant scoops, have a large amount of legitimate reviews of products, a humorous take on the subject you focus on, or offer some sort of promotional contest.

It's well worth starting for quite a few reasons if you can get it up and running however it's the breaking into the niche that can be difficult. If you think you can overcome those obstacles though it can be both a profitable niche for income as well as extra bonuses in free or trial technology if you become a large enough site.

On the hosting review/discussion website I don't know too much about that so wouldn't be able to give much of an idea on that one.

The niche you mention already too saturated
its a not a good idea to join a too competitive niche

I agree with the above, by yourself there is just no way to compete with sites like engadget, gizmodo, lifehacker, etc as they all have full time staff working for them.

They go to all of the product releases of every major electronics/phone/computer/IT company that there is, and they have the scoop so to speak. As soon as a new product is even rumored they all have the story.

You would always be playing catch up.

If you really want to do some techy related website, I suggest you think of a subniche you are interested in, and create a site for that.

And even those are all pretty saturated so do some good research before you do.

there good if you can keep them constantly updated so your visitors get updated with the latest news meaning you will get more money from ads, donations etc. its a gr8 concept but hard to manage on manual HTML Pages so i reccomend using a forum!

Try something more unique. You are just one person and you would have to be writing 24hrs a day just to almost keep up with the big guys. Plus, the established sites have all the connections and when it comes to new, what matters is who gets it first.

You can make your niche more specific and make it about cheap deals, eco-friendly gadgets, USB-powered gadgets, super-expensive gadgets, etc. etc. If you like gadgets, you could stay in the general topic, just pick a more specific niche.

    Best of luck!
