SEO is a very easy concept to learn provided you have someone to come along and help answer the little questions that piece the puzzle together. PM me if you would like and I'd be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Get to the top on Google by David Viney is a great book. If you want to go all out buy The art of SEO Mastering Search Engine Optimisation. Both are available on Amazon.

The term "SEO" is the abbreviation to "Search Engine Optimization". This is not about optimizing search engines, though. It is about optimizing websites for search engines. But why one needs to optimize a website? To answer this question we need to understand what a search engine is.

Search engines as the way to find an info on the web appeared in the middle of 90's. They crawled websites and indexed them in their own databases marking them as having one or another keyword in its content. Thus, when someone put some query in the searchbox of that search engine, it quickly searched its database and found which indexed pages corresponded to that query.

So, the more keywords of a query a website had, the higher it was shown in the results of a search. We don't know who was the first guy realized that he can make some changes to the pages of his website to make it rank higher, but he was truly a diamond!

So, SEO is something that helps your site rank better in search engines. There are a number of ways and methods of SEO, some of them are legitimate, while others are restricted and considered as "blackhat" techniques. Search engines don't like blackhat SEO and the effect of its usage may be disastrous for your website.

Keyword research, and then putting in places like the header, title, description, content, alt tag, anchor text and then comes the Off Page activities like link building, article writing and submitting and forum posting, social bookmarking and blog commenting.

lol, how about you stop being completely retarded and go get off your lazy arse and read. It's not all in one place, but there is heaps and heaps of solid information online. Took me about 3 months to go through all the SEO forums and blogs.Random thoughts:1. twitter is your friend in indexing links2. links are king3. database sites are also king4. other than that, just your general tiered link building

What is there to be confused about?

The WHAT is really quite simple

it's the HOW that takes effort.

If you are still stuck on the WHAT you might be best to outsource the HOW
