Just read the posts and information in the forum, read the blog posts from members - some will be good, some won't. As you learn, you'll be able to tell the difference.
Read DP posts, Matt Cutts blog, Shoemoney's Blog, SEOmoz blog. But most importantly watever you learn try it out on dummy domain so that u know wats happening and y its happening.
The only way to Learn SEO is by doing.... So, the best advice I can give is for you to go out and register a .info name, and create a small (10-20 page) content site on something that you know a bit about. Then, with that site, you read all the tutorials and posts that you can find and try things out. It will take a few hours a week over 6-10 months and you will have learnt all the basics. Now, I can point you to a basic SEO tutorial that I wrote, and leave it up to you to try it and see if if the info was worthwhile. Once you start, you will see all sorts of advice - some great, some good and some a total load of rubbish. The trick is sorting the good from the bad and that only comes with experience.
if you are net to seo then start with: free directory submission and article submission etc. read the threads and posts of dp and go through the seo categories. you will slowly learn a lot and become the best seo expert in no time!
What is most important - learn everything about link exchange BEFORE you put the first outbound link!
goto some useful sites and read the posts here seomoz.org is one of the best site for SEO and read articles over there. just try to study your competitor's sites u will find some new tricks over there.
You must know how to find better keywords for your site. If you found one, you must determine how popular it is an how many competitors would you have. Then if you are done, put your keywords in title, meta, content, and if so, in your URL. After that, look for backlinks.
A great place to get an overview of Seo and learn the basics is Seomoz's beginners guide to seo. http://www.seomoz.org/article/beginners-guide-to-search-engine-optimization Also it would be good to familiarize yourself with the different factors that make a page rank. Once again, Seomoz to the rescue. http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors Jim Westergren has published a list of subjects that he believes Seo's need to know. It would be good to look through the list and make note of the things that you are not familiar with. Then go through the list learning each subject one by one. http://www.jimwestergren.com/seo-professional-seo-subjects-you-need-to-know/ Also you have to put all that you are learning into practice. For that, it would probably be best to start by building a simply site on a subject that you know a lot about. And that is not in a hyper-competitive industry. You will really assimilate your new knowledge and learn some valuable lessons by just getting in there and doing it.
