The domain is nothing special by itself, so it is worth registration fee. As for the value of the domain after it is developed, that depends on a lot of additional factors (which no one currently has/can predict to judge with).
3 character nets and orgs are not valuable and they weren't valuable in the past either. So you should stay away from them if you are not planning to develop it as some kind of service or as a blog. 3 character coms have some value and there is no need for an explanation for 3 letters.
