Tax Obligations?

Programs like Adsense insist that you submit your tax information, or declare that you are a foreign resident. I suppose that they are legally obligated to the IRS to do that sort of thing.

But what qualifies you for that obligation? If I create a program that makes and receives payments for non-physical property, what sort of obligations do I have to the government and to my customers? Are there any resources for this sort of thing?

Thanks everybody! I'm a Canadian resident, btw.

Google does not report your earnings to Revenue Canada. But Revenue Canada does expect you to report your worldwide income from all sources including Adsense and from the internet.

Right above the signature line on your Canadian tax return it says....
"I certify that the information given on this return and in any documents attached is correct, complete, and fully discloses all my income. It is a serious offence to make a false return. Sign here."

Thanks for your input (this isn't about tax evasion LengendaryPosting) and I realize that as an individual you have to claim all of your income.

But I'm talking about your obligations as the owner of a program that makes and receives payments like adsense does, not as an individual. Is there any guides for what tax information you must supply your clients, and the government?

In Canada it is helpful to get a GST number if you are charging GST to other Canadians. If you are selling to Canadian companies & charging GST they will ask for your GST number. There are no other tax or reporting obligations to the Cdn gov't other than keeping records and paying your taxes. PS: IANAL.
