Targeting Phrase Keywords Convert More?

I was just wondering, can anyone tell me when it comes to SEO optimizing if phrase keyword searches convert like broad keyword searches do? I do realize the competition to search volume seems more fitting for phrase keyword searches as opposed to broad keyword searches.

Long tail generally converts better than broad searches.

Stuff like "brand name review" converts the best, you need to fish out the buyers from browsers. Someone searching "weight loss tips" isn't likely going to buy anything, but someone searching "fatloss 4 idiots review" probably already has there credit card out, if you know what I mean.

    It depends on the phrase.

    Eg. "I like hats"
    or "I love hats"
not the same as "cowboy hats"
    "fancy hats"
    or "cheap hats"
    or "expensive hats"
    or "hats on sale"

    Always target the buying keywords!
