Targeting only one website (and beating the competition there)

I did some Google Adwords a few years ago for a brief period of time but it didn't work out well. Now I want to get into this again and first of all want to outbid one guy who has his content ads on a single site. I saw the placement option in Adwords but I'm still a bit lost. How would you go about doing this in Adwords and what kind of strategy would you follow to get your Ads shown on this one specific site?

Any advice would be fantastic, I will read all day and night to get a bit up to date now but this would help me a lot to get started.

Your question is very open-ended without knowing more details. You know about the placement (site targeting) option which is the one you should always use in my opinion. So you're good there. I assume you know how to ad the site in question to your campaign or is this what you are asking?

You don't say if this is a text ad or an image ad. Doesn't matter as far as outbidding the other guy. Your ranking, like on the search network, is determined by multiplying your bid with your QS which is purely CTR on the content network. Have a higher number and you outrank him. You don't need to outbid him, simply have a better ad. Of course, you don't know what he bids or his CTR so there'll be some testing to do at first.

I have a section on the content network in my own book. Sounds like you have that part down. What you need is learn how to create high quality ads.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry if I was not specific enough.

I was hoping to get some ideas on how to test in an efficient manner. Start with a high cpc or low for example? How would you approach this?

You can select your desired website from Google content network website lists. you can easily find that Google content network selection while creating your ad campaign.

I is nice way to get started as content network clicks are much cheaper than search one's.

It depends what your goal is. The content clicks are cheaper because they're lower quality/less likely to convert in my experience.
