For new sites, I hear its good to go after low keywords, ones that are searched say 1,000 to 2,000 times a day. Why not just got after the higher ones? All your doing is just doing directory submitting and link exchanges right? some on page seo.... Why waste your time with lower keywords then? I dont understand, maybe you guys can fill me in on this method

    Depends on the market.

If you are thinking of going after the top(high) keywords in a HUGE market, like real estate or investing, you will have to spend BIG$$$$$$$$$$$ to get a good result from those high keywords.

Depends on the size of your wallet.

    Cheers

    Obviously because it's easier. :p

It's always better to start small then gradually work on ranking for more competitive keywords.

Targetting longer keywords are easier and at the same time the traffic would be more targetted. At the same time of building your longer keywords you will slowing gain rankings for shorter keywords as well. So its a both win.

Its more satisfying to see results faster. You could wait years before you rank for some of the most competitive keywords

Yes, targeting easier keywords will motivate you to try for harder ones. You can always go for the more general keywords after you have achieved a good ranking with a more targeted keyword.. at least you will still get some decent traffic along the way :)
