Target audience, the smaller the better?

    Hi,
    I'm new to FB ads, so when I chose target audience (older women) and got 320,000 people,
    I got warning "Your target audience selection is fair."
    However, when I add some more interests (health), I got 8,400 people
    and then it was OK, "Your target audience is defined."

    I don't get it. Since I pay per click, not impression, I don't see why wouldn't
    I have a wider audience? I mean, if they show ads to older women with health interests,
    it's fine. But maybe many other older women (not necessarily interested in health)
    would be interested in my product!

    Am I missing something? What are your suggestions?

    Pros : This will help your brand in getting visibility in a broader way. You are right, there may be women's who are not interested in health but may interest in your product. You may get more clicks and more revenue as well. If you good enough to invest to check out if broad targeting may help your business then you can go for it. More your products are visible, more people will see and chances of getting sales will be more.
    Cons : This may lead towards irrelevant clicks and wastage of money.

    You may get relevant clicks but not sure about the sales. May be people interested in health are also selling the same product. You are targetting less people so chances are less for revenue.

    In My experience if your targeting such a small group I would go for
    Impressions over clicks.

    8,400 people at .15 cents per thousand impressions.
    For a $1 you can have
    your ad in front of everyone of them.
    For $10 you can put it front of them 10 times EACH.

    As people rarely act on the first time they see your ad showing it to them 10 times
    will see if your ad is going to convert.

    (if you get ZERO clicks then its your ad, assuming your targeting is correct.
    Change the ad and go again)

    Once you have a winner Begin expanding the market slowly and switch to cost per click.

    By doing cost per click to a market of 8,400 I would suspect you find it hard to spend
    your money.
