I had written a note to them about poor ad relevence - they leave a bit to be desired in the holiday area - here's a page that is clearly themed Christmas (and Google Adsense can figure that out), but the ads are Mortgages, Payday loan cash, long-distance by Vontage (we've all seen that one), and another Mortgage ad. Their initial suggestion was ad-targetting, but there is no holiday section, and they said they are working on better ad relevence. I hope so - the holiday season is upon us! ;-) So I then suggested that they provide some way for us to filter ALL of these so-called RON ads. I.e. my guess is if they don't have something relevent, they throw up mortgages, long-distance, etc. I said while I'm sure you (the nice YPN person) can't respond, in my opinion they are just pure crap - it's more important to me to have NO ads (or given me a PSA option like Adsense does) than to show crappy ads. They pointed out URL blocking, but I said it would be a hassle to track all these down - all I want is (IF you have 'em) relevent ads that don't make my site look spammy. I closed by saying that I bet a lot of people feel the same way, so I hope they'll consider these constructive comments.
I mean no offense, but I think that most people would prefer to have paying RON ads show when ad inventory runs dry, rather than PSA's. I for one don't miss PSA's one bit. I already donate money to charities. AmCy
It would probably be best if they had an option to return the ad space (a user controled default) or show RON ads.
Let me ask you this: if you were to see an ad for Vonage VOIP services on a CNN.com news page, would you also call that "spammy?" AmCy
spam is in the eyes of the beholder, but I still think it would be nice if they offerred us the CHOICE to have these or not. I did not suggest they do NOT run/offer 'em - just let me decide (on a per account basis) if I want 'em or not.
Yes, choice is always better. I'm willing to bet that they'll implement an option for specifying your own ALT banners soon. AmCy
The whole benefit of contextual programs is relevancy. Without relevancy they are a very poor way to monetize a site. So yeah they need to provide a means to giving back the space if it is not going to be relevant.. Because in my experience, non-relevant contextual ads are extremely poor performers.
Yeah, that would be optimal. And I'm sure they could implement keyword targeting quite easily. However, they probably don't do it because it is just too easy to abuse. As always, IMO. AmCy
That's that they all say when you contact them!!! I've seen very little improvement over the last month ad wise, though daily average earnings have increased. I would rather have crummy ads that make more money than good ads that make less (Good ads that make less= Google. Crummy ads that make more= Yahoo!).
HEY! Ned! This is where we discuss these things. How about YOU stop bitching! And instructing others just what they can say. If you don't like open discussion, maybe YOU should shut up! No wonder you have all that red! You have a BAD ATTITUDE. Nobody is granting you authority status - just loudmouth, smart-ass reply status. "Like it or lump it, you bitchy dude" is not a helpful response.
