    Using a comma before a subordinate clause is not a comma slice. Even if you want to argue that it is grammatically incorrect, that doesn't make it a comma splice.

    A comma splice is when two independent clauses are connected with a comma. Two independent clauses are supposed to be separated by a period or semicolon. In other words, a comma splice is when you use a comma without a conjunction to connect two sentences.

    Nonetheless, subordinate clauses can be separated with a comma. It is usually recommended not to use a comma, but many exceptions exist. It comes down to being a stylistic choice.
