Taking products off the market

I have a couple ebook projects (actually packages) that I have been selling for a couple years. Nice niche preschool products. Sales are not huge but steady. Of course I have not done near the promotion I could (focus on other things).

However it is time to update and change format plus there is the occasional hassle you deal with whenever you sell anything.

So I have been toying with the idea of just plain taking the suckers off the market and repackaging the material for other purposes:

    • Articles (to distribute or use on niche sites)
    • Freebies for lead capture purposes
    • Site content

Obviously this plan could result in more traffic and PPC income which would likely cancel out (or even trump) the loss of the sales income, or at least I think it is obvious.

What pitfalls or problems am I overlooking with this solution?

If I no longer have a product is it worth it to have a lead capture system at all? Could sell affiliate stuff I guess.

I really would appreciate any thoughts or advice on this plan before I make a hideous mistake.

    Thanks!
