    hi guys

ok let me see if i have this right:

Shopping cart > payment processor > merchant account ????

thing is, Protx (the payment processor) charges 10p per transaction and the merchant account charges 2% per transaction (HSBC)

is there anyway of doing it cheaper? why cant i use a normal buiness account and not a merchant one? is that not what the payment processor is for??

i know paypal is an option. i'll be providing that too, but would rather have a main payment gateway too look more professional.

also, does anyone know of a better (cheaper) merchant account provider in the UK?

    thanks
    tony

Are you using HSBC for your merchant account provider?

Basically, you have a Merchant Account, and it integrates into your website through a payment gateway, which in your case I believe is Protx. Merchant account providers (banks included) do not normally have their own interface that you can connect to. For this reason, you need to use a 3rd party payment gateway.

In your case, HSBC does have their own payment gateway. I would call your provider and see if this is something they can offer you. In the end, I'm not sure if it is going to help a lot because most payment gateways cost $.05 - $.10 per transaction. Wouldn't hurt to check with HSBC to see if you can get on their gateway.

If you are in UK then why should not you use google checkout for accepting payments using credit cards. You may also use PayPal.
