Last January 1st Name.com has promoted the cupon "xxoo" to renove .NET and .Com for free and also you could register new .NET for free. They have promoted this cupon on Facebook and Twitter. Two days later, they sent this e-mail: Tomorrow they are going to take away all those new domains which I've registred with the promotion code "xxoo".
I guess they're counting on the individual cost of legally contesting their decision being way, way more expensive than paying the fees. I wonder if someone got fired? That would be worse than having to pay for something when you thought you had a freebie.
I just read what happened. Did Name.com ever advertise they were doing this for free in the first place, though?
This is wonderful, I patronize name.com so surprise with this information and that goes a long way tarnishing their image; though I never receive this information from them. Cheers
name.com is acting like nothing happend. Look at their fb page. Just a short video stating that they made a mistake and the clients must support the consequences and after that ... Silence... Their slogan "We've been giving a $#*! since 2003!" can be now changed in "We've been giving a $#*! ABOUT OUR CLIENTS SINCE 2013!" Sad that a company that want to be a top dog is acting like that. Name.com you have one client less from today!
In case anybody hasn't seen the news... looks like eNom will be buying Name.com (http://www.domainnamenews.com/registrars/demand-media-to-buy-name-com/22295). Not sure what this will mean for pricing, support, etc.
