Intresting and i also agree dont obsese about getting number 1 i always concentrate on getting in the top 12 it gives me a better chance and more satisfaction if i get it.

Do keep in mind that very few niches will get you quick traffic even for 3-5 keyword phrases.

As much as I've targeting keyword phrases, I've been amazed at the traffic that comes from phrases I'd never thought to use. Therefore, writing regular content is great because you might be unknowingly writing a common yet not popular phrase.

Thanks for sharing that, Brad For me, content is the most important part when developing a site, i've created sites full of content and without any link building campaign, they started to receive traffic for phrases within those articles.

 

Simple but yet brilliant.

 

The banner ad at the top can lower your overall AdSense earnings, due to quirks in the way that AdSense works.

The large rectangle will have your highest CTR -- much higher than the banner at the top of the page.

Simple, right? No.

Google puts the most expensive ads in the first ad block on the page. This means that the most expensive ads will be clicked less and the less expensive ads will be clicked more. Overall, your revenue will be less than without the poorly performing top banner.

Use AdSense channels and test for yourself.

 

One way to get around this is to use CSS to re-order your ads. Make sure the top banner ad is below the large rectangle in the HTML code, but use CSS to position the banner at the top.
