I have website that i use Y! ads on but they are always very generic and not content related. I have tried changing the positions but 'credit refinance' ads keep coming in. Any one else have this problem and have suggestions to make ads more relevant?

The only way that seems to change your ads are the targeting categories in your publisher panel.

Good way to get banned. Also that doesn't work with ypn. Ypn only displays ads they want to display lol. Unless you're using ad targeting then it's not as random.

first thought is that either you are not giving enough time / impressions for the page to target, or there are a lack of advertisers that match up with ypn's contextual interpretation of your content. without seeing your page, its hard to say. make sure you arent overstuffing your meta keyword tags and that you are making good use of alt tags, h1 tags, etc and that your kw phrases are naturally located within your content.

if none of that helps, then i would think that the targetting system cant focus in on a relevant kw and is giving you the ron. adjust your content to suit the ads you want. targetting may be crap, but you should still be able to target a page.

of course, i like d16's idea. contact ypn and have them help you. they have also helped me.

By far the dumbest thing I have ever read on DP. #1 font tags are no longer used. #2 hidden text via CSS is a big red flag for SE's. #3 it is a great way to get banned.

you don't really want to go on a wichhunt and start blocking URL's that don't fit your site in terms of targeting because your nto fixing the problem just beating around the bush. Call YPN and get help with targeting.

I changed a few tables on the front page of my site and finance/credit ads came from nowhere and started showing up on the page. Also another page I modified a little bit started to show these ads.

I emailed YPN and they called me within one hour. I was told give it a couple of days or so and assured they are working round the clock to give us relevant ads. I am sure adsense would send me an automated email telling me to read some faqs.

So the advice is if you are getting good ads, don't modify your site unless necessary. Mine was not important :(

Thanks for the tip. Please keep us updated if you've had luck with the targeting. I have been pretty frustrated with my writing-related sites as they never seem to get targeted ads (no matter how much I play with my seo and keywords) and I know there are campaigns out there that I would think would rather display on my site targeted for writers. Even the targeting tool doesn't seem to work, of course I'm not sure how to pick a category for writers. I have some self improvement sites that I also get a weird choice of ads for.

I don't believe that is true for my niche. I did some research before selecting my keywords specifically to make sure of that. That is what makes it so frustrating for me.

I wouldn't ban any ads ever...if they don't have enough for the niche, the you won't get anything displaying.

I researched my key words using Keyword Elite.

I'm still having trouble with targeting though.

I tried contacting Yahoo and they said to use the ad targeting tool which is extremely not helpful!

Should I contact them again? Perhaps the cs rep I got was feeling cranky?

When you work on optimizing a site/page what seems to work best in terms of ad targeting?

    For example:

    Title
    H1
    keywords
    adjacent copy

My results when I experiment with different sites is so varied that I'm not sure what to think.

i dont see how researching via keyword elite will let you know if there are advertisers advertising via yahoos content network. while there may be plenty of advertisers paying to be part of the search network, that doesnt mean there is an adequate advertiser pool participating in the content network to pull relevant ads in your case. this is more likely your problem although i wouldnt rule out other possibilities without more information.

Keyword Elite tells you how many advertisers have campaigns for specific keywords as well as the bid range.

does it tell you if those advertisers are including their campaigns in the content network? if so, let me know so i can take advantage. if not, then its only a tool, like so many others out there.
