t-shirt idea for advertising

Not sure if anyone would like this, but I wanted to pass it on....a friend of mine who owns lots of websites decided to advertise on t-shirts...but he did it in a different way. He started supporting 5k and 10k races...he would pay enough to get a logo on the back of the shirt. Now some of these are expensive, but his most recent one he paid $500 to support a 5k charity run (tax write-off)...since he donated 500$, they put his website on the back of the shirt. over 3000 people raced that day, meaning every single one got a t-shirt....not a bad idea if you ask me...other thoughts?

I like the idea but in the end it all depends on who your target market is. If you were trying to sell parrot food, advertising on t-shirts in a 5k charity race won't bring you a return.

exactly, it's not target marketing whatsoever, just spending $500 that go out to a wide variety of people with no rhyme or reason. He could have probably used that $500 to pinpoint a specific group on the internet.

but everytime someone wears one of those shirts, more advertising is being done...so far he has seen great success with it...since he started doing this, his revenue has almost tripled...another thing about 5k's is that they attract people from all over, not just people from one specific town. Just a thought though.

it could heavily depend on what his site is about....for instance, auto repair, insurance, education, etc are topics that everyone can relate to. However, if it's a really narrow niche site, it would probably be a bad idea to advertise this way

T-shirt advertising is a good idea, but the thing is that traffic won't be stable.

Why? Because only on that day or that week of your friend's charity race. People will enter the site, by the end of next week probably people will forget the domain name. So in order for this to be successful you have to keep advertising every week. It will be very interesting to see the results. :D

T-Shirts are one of The Best marketing expenditures you can make.

A good t-shirt will last for a few years.

The person wearing your shirt is a Good Will Embassador for your company.

$5.00 per person divided over a year or two of wear = Come on... One sale covers it.

T-Shirts are great marketing. Given a years time they will be at least 500% more effective than $5.00 in Pay Per Click.

Invest $1,000 in 200 t-shirts and give them out to people you know. It'll be the best grand you spend on marketing this year.

    Now for the killer angle.

If your company can come up with a cool or funny t-shirt... PEOPLE WILL PAY YOU TO WEAR YOUR COMPANY SHIRT.

You can make money marketing your company with the right shirt.

    ...if you are creative enough.
