Let me preface this note by saying that I am a business geek with a technical question. We're a small ISP and we've used Optigold (w/Filemaker) for about 5 years. Very pleased with the product but we've not really given it much of a test. That's about to change with the potential addition of over 50,000 subscribers in a 45 day period - preferrablly via web signup and other automation tools currently available. My questions: Will Optigold handle that size of customer base and the demands via web access as it is currently connected to Filemaker, or should we consider a migration to MySQL? Also need latest status on the product rewrite. We have some control over the timing of the influx of subsribers, but once the dam bursts we won't be able to change horses. I need to get this system config right, including any suggestions regarding hosting platforms. Thanks.
50,000 subscribers should be fine in the current setup... the biggest issue will be how many signups concurrently (at peak times) you are going to be doing with the web interface. You may want to bring an extra Unlimited machine online and cluster them together with WSC if it's going to be a lot. There is no timeframe on the rewrite, sorry.
Be gentle - like I said I'm not a technical guy. An extra unlimited machine clustered via WSC? You mean another Optigold server working in tandem with the current machine? How does the database sharing stuff work under that configuration?
Unlimited is the web server piece of FileMaker. So basically two web servers tied back to the central DB server.
Thank you. I take it then that that two (or more?) web servers would allow for larger numbers of concurrent users. Any estimate of how many concurrent users (including customer service reps) each server would handle?
