Syndication of Articles on our Site

We just struck a content partnership with a major financial company, whereby we can use their content on our site to provide added value for our readers, as well as to leverage the brand relationship to give us credibility. However, our in house marketing individual has freaked out and claims that republishing articles from the original publisher is going to kill the sites SEO as a whole. I understand that these articles will have no SEO value to our site whatsoever, but truly think that they will be helpful for our community when educating them on retirement planning.

I was planning on adding a link back to the original post for each article, as well as modifying our robots.txt file to instruct the bots to avoid crawling this content.

Is this a horrible relationship? For example, Yahoo Finance serves as an aggregator for financial articles from around the web, and obviously they still do extremely well in the rankings. How is what we are doing any different?
