I've been using Google Browser Sync for quite a while to keep bookmarks in sync between several machines.

It has done a great job keeping everything synchronized on all PCs until a few days ago. It has always been a little sluggish, but lately it takes a few seconds, or a few hours, or never finishes.

I've done a little troubleshooting and I'm guessing either of two things: I have a corruption or something GBS doesn't like in bookmarks.html , or the Google servers are having a problem.

Is anybody experiencing Google Browser Sync problems?

On the same topic, what do you use to sync your bookmarks (or IE favorites)?

Foxmarks is quite popular, any feedback on Foxmarks?

I gave up on Google Browser Sync. The time lag between editing bookmarks on one PC and having them show up on the other machine was as long as 24 hours, so I switched over to Foxmarks (v 1 at the time) . It was great. It synchronized each machine every hour, sooner if I made changes. Fantastic. I never noticed it running, the bookmarks were always 'just synced.'

I upgraded to the new v 2.0 and had tons of problems (setup, sync errors, bookmarks disappearing, etc.) I spent hours getting it straightened out. The new Foxmarks v 2 can now sync the favicons, which is cool, but eats more resources.

After several v 2 upgrades (I think it's up to 2.0.43) and figuring out how to turn off the favicon sync because it was taking too much CPU, I'm back to being very happy with Foxmarks for keeping my bookmarks synchronized between machines.

When Google Browser Sync (GBS) started to take ridiculously long to complete I switched to Foxmarks. Foxmarks v1 worked great. I upgraded to v2 and have had trouble, like the bookmarks all going back to a previous copy and losing my changes. After spending dozens of hours troubleshooting Foxmarks v2, in desperation I thought I'd try Google Browser Sync again. Well !! Google must have added more servers or bandwidth because the bookmark changes propagate almost instantly now. Modify a BM on one PC, BOOM, a few seconds later it shows on the other machines. SWEEEEEEET

    Dear Foxmarks,
Thanks for the great v1. I installed it and it worked flawlessly for months. v2 is good, but not as stable, light, or invisible as v1. You really ought to offer both, Foxmarks with or without favicon support (basically v1 or v2). The favicon sync is nice, but the CPU cost and sync time is too high.

To be fair, I will note that I was using Foxmarks with my own FTP server, and the issues I had may not be issues when using the Foxmarks server. However, I don't know why someone would allow a third-party access to all their bookmarks. I've collected my BMs over a decade and I'm sure there are some in there that would be a security risk. Yes, GBS has access to them, all I can imagine Google doing would be analyze my patterns or something. Also, if you have a quick PC, you might not have the CPU load paralyzing the PC for 45 seconds. Mine are around 1.5 GHz and that ain't quite enough. Probably 2 GHz or more would 'cut it'. And another thing, I have probaby 1000 BMs, which isn't enourmous, but if you have only a few it might be be a lot quicker as well. And if you don't turn off the favicon sync, you probably won't see the bookmarks disappearing either. I turned on disableiconsync to save sync time, but it seems that that's when I had the bookmarks disappear.

Bottom line -- if you have a fast PC, and/or don't mind sharing your BMs with the Foxmarks server, Foxmarks is a great app for syncing bookmarks between firefox on different PCs.
