I want to switch jerlene.com to jerlene.net How do I go about doing this?

I'm selling the jerlene.com domain and want to switch everything from jerlene.com over to jerlene.net, without losing a thing(members, posts, hacks, etc.).

I'm switching from one vB forum to another...

Please be as descriptive as possible as I'm new to all of this.

Download all your vBulletin files to your harddrive, then re-upload them to your new domain. EXPORT the database of your .com fourm and then IMPORT it on your .net forum. Update the database values in your configuration file.

What if jerlene.net is just a domain. No cPanel, etc. Just under GoDaddy or something.

Go into your forum admin CP, and backup the database (will take a while) but it will be downloaded to your computer, and then you can install a new VB forum on your new site, and restore the database that you just downloaded.

You don't have to dl or upload anything.

Just go into your web host manager and change the domain from the .com to the .net, then you'll prolly want to do a 301 from the .com to the .net and ofcourse, you'll need to edit your sitename in your forum admin panel..

    cheers

Precisely. Just point your httpd.conf (if you're using Apache) at the new site and 301 it. You don't need to move files or anything.

btw, I'm always a sucker for a challenge, if you're on a Linux system, post your question here Linux Administration - Apache, DNS, Security and i'll walk you through whatever you need if it requires 301 redirects, mod rewrite and even if it's a Windows server question, go ahead and ask. always willing to help fellow DigitalPoint members.

Why can't you just point the nameserver to the .net and take it off for the .com.

And send out an newsletter to tell people of the change, and post the news on the forum b4 it happens.

Anyone know if you can change from like smf to vbulltion or like phbpbb. Probably not but worth an ask.
