Switching domains on a live site: Traffic Impact?

Ok, I've had a site running for about 2 months now and I noticed the script I'm using is crap. I've bought a new script to use with it now. Thing is I'd also like to change domains. The original domain is HottestPicOnMyspace.com, the new domain would be HottestProfilePics.com. With that said, I wouldn't be only changing the domain but the site content. Instead of only rating myspace pics you would be able to rate pics from other social communities. (or at least thats the plan).

My question is - how much of an impact/what kind of an impact would that have on my site dealing with traffic.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In regards to search engines, you should always prepare for - or at least expect a drop in traffic. You may be damaging your rankings if you switch from an old domain to a brand new one.

The best thing you can do really is carefully 301 redirect all of your old URLs to the new ones. I recently changed a site over to a new system, we used a script to write all 2000+ 301 redirects and we managed to change over to the new URLs with no major impact to traffic.

i see... is there a way to have any/all pages on a specific domain redirected to another domain. like the redirect you mentioned. how would i do that? i dont want to make a whole bunch of manual redirects - but some kind of automatic redirect where any page on a specific domain will be redirected to another domain.
