Switching domain registrars

I'm currently registered with GoDaddy, and they aren't too bad so far, but I would like to try another registrar when my domain expires. Is it possible to switch registrars without problems and conflict?

Sure nowadays switching is mor or less automatic, just register at the registrar you want and the transfer will proceed. Just make sure you have your Auth Code ready.

It is quite easy depending on who you switch to. Do not switch for cheap registers because they fall short. I switched all mine to Name Cheap and have been with them a couple of years. I have never had a problem. I used GoDaddy and Ipower before and switched from GoDaddy without a problem. I had problems with both of them.

Do not wait until you expire though, do it with some time left because there is a window of time close to the date that you can no longer transfer it.

Yes, it is relatively simple to transfer domains from one registrar to another. I have transferred names from several different ones without ever having a problem. I have heard the Register.com makes it more difficult to get that required authorization code. It seems you can only get it by phone.

Yes, register.com requires you to phone in to get the auth code, thats why I am starting to regret getting from them the free domain in the first place :(

Yes, my guess is that quite a few of us here went for that free domain name. I am putting off making the call, but sooner or later I will either call 'em up or just let it expire away. It all depends upon the mood I am in at the time.

Oh, in case someone doesn't know, register.com charges $35 per year renewal! That is why everyone wants to transfer away and why they try to discourage it.

Transfer the domain out a few months before the expiry date

Make sure you transfer the domain name at least 30 days before it expires to ensure that it can be moved without any issues.

Although I have some domains there,I never I got free ones.
Once I had tried for a free offer and end up canceling at the time of check out,as I decided to register that later.
But I was fired at that time and the domain was on hold for 4 days exclusively for me to register.
I found this option is pretty good, but there I was bit upset about using their free offers.
Later within hours I got offer to register that with $17 or so.
And when I tried to register,it did n’t work and I had to register with full price. I got my lesson.
I have to think several hours/days before registering there again.
Recently I had another issue with same incident & I am observing an issue with them.
No matter,I will no more register new domains there.

After all if price is not a matter then their service is pretty good and sometimes their live help system is beyond imaginations.
If ever I want to transfer out from register.com,I should n’t get any headache as I never use free offers. But I hate the process of getting the EPP codes.

Whether or not you use the free offer or not, register.com requires you to call in to get your auth codes :)

    Yep,
I know that and am never worried about the same, because I rarely registered there knowing all the issues & have no plan yet to transfer them out.:)
I want to write that,I am very very happy about their live help system with two(specially) gentle persons who guided me even about hosting issues over other webhosts spending pretty long time in past, when I was extremely newbie to web.
