Switch Domainname for project

I have this project, for which I used a domainname with two hyphens in it. Now I want to change it to a non-hyphaneted domain. The old domain isn't very old, about 12 month. The new domain, to which I want to rebrand my site is even younger. Like 3 month.
The project is just getting some traction and starting to generate a nice revenue. Would you advise not to change domain names now? I think the non-hyphaneted name would do better in the engines. Besides, there exists another websites with my old name, just without hyphens. This site has been around longer than mine.

My plan is to make the new domain the standard hostname for the project and 301 all pages from the old name to the new one. Then i would contact my link partners and ask them to change the link.

I guess I will loose quite a bit traffic but I hope to have the project recover within a few months.

What do you think? Any suggestions or experience with this kind of switch? If this is of interest, I will post to this thread, how the switch is going.

    Thanks and kind regards, Hans
