Hello everyone, I've recently purchased Sweet Lyrics and was curious what you guys thought about it! Thanks.
IMPORTANT! Check out your meta tags, they are in the body section of the page! Ouch! Better review your templates. Jay
nice website! my advise is to create a widget so you will get a lot of free advertizing to your website. call it sweet-lyrics widget or something like that. and if u dont know what it is a lyrics widget, go to the yahoo or apple download widget area. they arent that complicated to do, and windows vista will have a "widgets dashboard" in it. so do it while u can.
Lyrics are copyrighted material and it's infringement to publish them without permision from the copyright holder - which is almost impossible to obtain in the vast majority of cases. It like getting a book from the library and then posting the entire book on your site without written permission from the author or publisher. Almost every lyric site on the net is operating illegally, and the Music Publishers' Association (MPA) is going after and shuting these sites down - and imposing fines. The MPA president Lauren Keiser is also pushing for jail time in some cases (copyright infringement can be a criminal offense). lyricfind.com was just forced to remove most of its lyrics and they are now trying to cut a deal to pay for licensing rights to put copies of lyrics on their site. Every time a song is played on the radio, a fee is paid. You can't even buy a CD and play it as background music in a retail store because that is considered commerical use. As stupid as that may sound, they actually have gone after small time stores for fees. This is why the larger operations play Muzak. Any website that takes in any revenue (running adsense, donations for bandwidth, subscription fees, any type of money) is considered commercial. I know there are a lot of sites that are doing it, but that doesn't make it legal, and the music industry considers publishing of its lyrics as nothing short of stealing and they are just not sending out C&D letters, but going after monetary damages. You can do a search on google and see that they are becoming real aggressive in the last few months and want to shut them all down. I think most people aren't aware that publishing lyrics is illegal, but an operator of a site who really didn't know doesn't let them off the hook. Posting a disclaimer that the material is owned by the copyright holder gives you absolutely no legal rights or protection, and could potentially get you in more trouble because you are acknowledging that you knew that you were posting copyrighted material.
