Is swearing offensive if it is not directed at you? I mean saying holy shit in a thread is not like saying "Fuck you you fucking ignorant cocksucker" to someone in a thread right?
yup they can....between adults, swearing doesn't bother me at all, but with youth around, i think adults should obstain.
Yes I am sure kids can read these threads. However I hear kids that are not even ten years old saying a hell of alot worse that holy shit! They pick it up somewhere and usually it's from their friends or parents. I think a kid will learn how to swear alot quicker from the conventional means than by reading it on forums. None the less Ill try to keep the swearing to a minimum. I just didnt think saying "Holy Shit" was that big of an issue
I can take a few of the words in stride, but they seem out of place in certain posts no matter what. I don't like thread titles to include curses, makes the forum look sleazy.
Yeah I was trying to make a point. Someone gave me a red rep for saying "Holy Shit" in the hilarious cat thread. AGAIN THEY DID NOT LEAVE THEIR NAME !!!! none the less I was trying to point out that alot worse than holy shit can be said
Just cusrious to see what peoples opinion is Hey babe my buddy and I came up with a cool new site concept Could work out very very very well money wise Ill fill you in on the idea when I see you this weekend but you have to promise NOT TO TELL ANYONE !!! XOx8+
Oh yeah, today's 8 months! Ok, as if I'd tell anyone and sweetie, a lot of people would get offended at the "holy" part, shit's one thing, but some don't like when you add that to it. From what I've seen at least.
Of course, I dont mind them swearing I just dont want them to be able to write it too Also maybe its unprofessional in an SEO forum, I dont know.. I would tend to listen just a little less to someone that says "I f**king love adsense", than someone who says "adsense provides me a good return". Its subjective, if I show a client some info on dp - sometimes I dont want to be scrolling through pages of &***@&^^£@^@* So all in all there seems to be no benefit to swearing in a forum.. doesnt mean I dont swear everytime my neighbour spins his tyres or the pub landlord boots me out for drinking like a handbag! But then, sometimes its essential
Repeat it enough and you will sound like you are in junior high........ I would prefer to not read any of it, but I try not to get offended by a word here or there. And we do have some youngsters here that don't need to read it. I would like my oldest son to learn SEO, but he already picks up words too easily and doesn't need the influence, so that would keep me from bringing him to the site.
No offense, but that sounds rediculous. Do you make him wear earmuffs to the playground? Have you been to a playground lately? I have no quams about what my kid might read. My kid has been taught right and wrong. When he encounters foul language at a gaming site for example, he'll ask me, "Dad, this is a bad word, what's a better way to say this?". Don't lay the responsibilty on the internet and don't confuse my comment to mean I think it looks good on a professional forum. :/
I normally use $ for s and @ for a, stuff like that. And a lot of others do so as well (often with the purpose of preventing the search engines from viewing this as an adult related content forum).
When my kids are at a playground we are with them. My oldest is 16 and he hears enough at movies, and then thinks you have to say words if you are mad, which is silly. When I went into the army I stopped swearing because I realized how much like junior highers we all sounded like. Every other word was f. or s. and it really does sound silly if you stop and listen to it, especially if it was a grown man. BTW, I am not laying the responsibility on the internet, but am only asking that people wouldn't, but you never see me jumping on someone for doing it. I would only red rep someone here for swearing if they were just name calling. So don't get me wrong, I am for self censoring, you have controls over what you say, write, see or do, if you want to be kind to others you may not want to write certain words to not offend them, but that is your choice. But if a forum has a no swearing rule and you swear, then the mods have the right to edit or ban, since it is their rule. If you run a forum and don't care, that is your right also.
Forgive my tangent, because I do agree that self censorship can make for a pleasant experience for all.
