Rules suspended from being able to send PMs - question

A friend of mine - a legitimate DP user who always tried to obey the DP rules religiously - got his and his brother's account (same room, same IP) suspended from sending PM messages at the same time. they never shared their accounts w/ anyone or each other, never participated in the same buy / sell threads, sent only relevant private messages and never boosted each other's itrader rankings. With utmost respect to your rules and guidelines, how could this possibly happen? Is it a permanent thing? Could anyone of the admins please look into this in greater detail if I PM you his DP nick?

or if you could point in the right direction on your FAQ page that could answer my questions (I couldn't find anything that applies strictly to this particular situation). many thanks!

You should ask them if they were spamming via PM or not. :)

If your friends are banned, logging in should tell them if or when the ban ends.

If your friends are not banned, maybe he or she could ask themselves.

    Thanks Brian

will do Shawn, thanks for chiming in! Knowing these guys I can't believe they could do any blatant spamming... what are the chances of ever getting their PM rights back if it wasn't intended crazy spamming of course?

I don't even know who you are talking about, so unless you post the username, I can't look at anything.

thank you Brian1970! they are not banned, just suspended from sending PMs (indefintely?). I suppose, they are too afraid to upset the mighty DP mods by bothering them with their case and pled me to do it :)

Can I post the username over here or is it better to PM it? i dont want to violate any rules here

thanks for looking into this! I will explain the reason to them and we'll try to figure out why they did what they did and how we can make sure this wont happen again. are they suspended indefinitely?

Hi Shawn, hate to pester, but is there any chance you could give me (and these guys through me) an idea of how much longer this penalty will last? It's regarding PM suspension for the madcaps hiding under the nicks of jackson8 and pockemon. in 6 days it'll be a month since they got suspended...

    Thanks!

    Hello, Shawn!
This is an unhappy Pockemon who's been banned for a month already for sending PMs. Still being suspended for spamming? I have NEVER spammed anyone! And by the way, how long will this continue? I can't do business now... What is the way out for me at the moment?

You sent 740 PMs in the last 90 days (and if you sent zero in the last months, you sent 740 PMs in a 60 day window). 740 PMs (many of which were copy/paste duplicates) on an account with zero posts. You really don't see why the system would think you are spamming? :)

Shawn, thanks for clarification but no one ever complained that I send enquiries for links or posts on their blogs. And actually because of my work I have to ask many people here about their services. According to the rules of your forum I can't just ask sellers about their prices within their threads and should use PM instead. That is what I was doing. Ok, if you system is such a wise creature that defines a number of PMs - I would not be surprised if it actually reads the contents. Nevermind, though. You may check what kind of PMs I was sending to people: "Please, send me your list of blogs with prices". Is it spamming?

And what is more important what should I do now? I need to get in touch with people and I simply can't do it.

    Thank you

It is your responsibility to make sure your PM is not interpreted as spam. One way to protect yourself is to reference the URL of member's thread to which you are responding and state why you feel there is a potential for doing business. Members posted as seeking link exchanges related to dance academies in the South, are not at all interested in unrelated links. To them an offer of unrelated links is spam. Make sure you have links fitting criteria stated before sending such members a PM.
