Just ran across this from Digg... Pretty interesting... A new study questions the common assumption that search engines control the hierarchy of the Internet.
Interesting, but the data is from Alexa in 2003 - a clearly biased sample of web users. I don't agree with their analysis of the results (at least what they presented as results). They say that people use longer queries - which result in SERPs for less popular websites. Wha?? Is that correct? They say they "think" it is. Come on guys! The Googlearchy is alive, but not well.
Well, I can't find the link right now but I read a Hitwise study some times ago which stated that users were using more keywords for theirs query on search engines. But you're right, I think the study is quite biased, and actually, nothing really new in it. Most of "basic" users will still click on the first SERPs results.
