    Hi,
Out of the blue I've had an email asking for a selling price for this domain:
www.family-den.com (sorry, can't add a link as I'm new). First time that's ever happened so don't have a clue about value. Would love some advice from those with experience in these matters. The domain is about 15 months old, page ranked 2.
    Thanks very much,
    Lynn

Because of PR and a demand + age I'd say mid $xxx. just my thought.

ask for a lot, when he counters for less, meet him in the middle...

    for a 15mo pr2 i'd ask for low $xxx, but that's just me

I'd be careful with direct mail offers, unless you're really sure of the source, they're often scams - some more blatant than others. They sometimes ask for you to get an appraisal at some dodgy unknown website in an attempt to rip you off... or they might mention some outrageous price like $45,000.

If the content is all unique I'd say it is worth low to mid $xxx. Personally I would try and get hold of the non hyphened version familyden.com and move it to there instead if I was to buy it.

be careful of any person who says they want you to appraise it first at a trustworthy (their) appraisal service.

happened to me once, some person offered 180,000 USD for three really ordinary domain names of mine. Luckily i didnt fall for it.

Any domain offer you get, first thing you want to do is research who is doing the offering.

Here is what his next step will be

    1. he will give an approximate offer say $1000 - $1500
    2. He will ask you to appraise domain from his trusted source..
    3. His objective behind this will be to sell domain appraisal..

Firstly make sure that it is not your typical appraisal scammer, seems that lots of these emails are going around these days

Thanks very much, everyone, for your useful advice. I think it may be someone who has bought the non-hyphenated domain name already, but I'll be cautious.

I know someone has it already, but if it was me I would try to buy it off them. :)

I fell into this scenario when I first started. If you’re a newbie domain buyer/reseller, some people prey on your eagerness to sell. But it sounds like you were contacted when not advertising your name for sale, but rather b/c this person likes the name and wants to develop it. If he wants an appraisal done, ask that he pays it himself.
